Whitney Houston

“Do not judge a song by its duration
Nor by the number of its notes
Judge it by the richness of its contents
Sometimes those unfinished are amongst the most poignant.”

Whitney Houston was born to sing, some say she was a musical genius and had the perfect voice, but in February this year, she became just another in the long list of celebrities who have died in recent years from the misuse of drugs and alcohol.

Found unconscious in the bath in her hotel room on February 11th 2012, paramedics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead a short time later. Houston was just 48 years old.
She came, she saw and she conquered.

Whitney Houston was born in Newark, New Jersey on 9th August, 1963, when the Sun was in the sign of Leo. Key words are noble, generous, loyal, enthusiastic and optimistic. Born to centre stage Leo’s love the limelight and their mission is to shine.

It is often said that people born under the sign of Leo are lucky but this is because they are driven to succeed and can create luck through their own endeavour.

The Moon, which rules our emotions and shows our everyday activities, was in the sign of Aries in Houston’s chart, combining intelligence with feeling.

Mercury rules the voice, our consciousness and shows how we communicate to the outside world. Here in this chart Mercury was in the sign of Virgo which is the sign of perfection and this sometimes gives one very high standards to live up to.

Combine this with Mars in Libra, which does not always have a great deal of staying power and we have a very powerful, potent combination, so certainly the musical talent shows up in the horoscope.

With the planets and personal points making patterns on the 90 degree dial we see the musical ability indicated with Mercury close to Pluto and although it gives the power to influence the general public it can have a bit of an obsessive quality about it.

Houston’s mother was a talented gospel singer who taught her daughter how to sing. Being related to Dionne Wawick, she was exposed to some very talented singers who had an impact on her career. She started singing at the age of 11 but it wasn’t till after leaving school that she started singing in earnest.

So; how does a bright, beautiful, talented individual, brought up on the right side of town, with so much to give to the world, take a dark detour into jealousy, emotional abuse and addiction?

Houston’s life has been well documented over the years by the tabloids and more recently by social media. From what I have read she had the whole world at her feet and then she met Bobby Brown at the Soul Train Musical Award awards in 1989. They married in 1992 and had a child together named Bobbi Kristina in 1993. Somewhere along the line she entered into a downward spiral.

Whilst her success does show up very clearly in the natal horoscope with the Moon/Jupiter/Node in a tight angle on the 90 degree dial we also have to be mindful that the Sun is very close to Saturn. Whilst this aspect gives one discipline and the ability to work hard it also is a very karmic pattern.
The description for Sun/Saturn in Ebertin’s book, “Combination of Stellar Influences,” suggests delicate health, a difficult struggle, inhibitions and hereditary affliction and whilst the first part of her life appeared to be pretty sheltered once out on her own she seemed to fall into the dark side of life.

Also; when the Sun close to Saturn in the natal horoscope we can be deprived of some of the basic needs in life like love, trust, intimacy which then leads to a feeling of rejection. Certainly after wide spread drug abuse our whole understanding of who we are can let us down.

My husband had an adopted son with the natal Sun/Saturn and although it did indicate the abandonment at birth by the mother, it also played out in an early death through drug misuse. He died at the age of 32.

Watching the transits to the Solar Arc on the day of death we see that transiting Pluto = Natal Mars triggering the mid-point between Uranus and Neptune which sadly had the propensity, for the drugs etc that she was on, to cause harm. Mars = Pluto can be a violent assault. In Houston’s case, it was certainly a violent assault, but to her own body.

I have also included Hades in my chart as one of the Uranian planets. The Uranian system is the only other astrological system to use a 90 degree dial and I was fortunate to attend their conference in Thailand, in January this year.

Hades is the king of the underworld in other words, all things ugly and sinister, like sickness, poverty, mistakes, guilt, and the dead. I have Hades on the Mid-heaven and chose to work in the area of death and dying as a funeral consultant and later working at the cemetery looking after the needs of the general public so it can have a positive side.

It is interesting that Hades in the chart of Whitney Houston is sandwiched between her talent and her downfall. Some more research is needed to see what the ramifications of this pattern are. Transiting Hades was also across the dial to the natal midpoint.

Our life journey is made up of choices and no matter who we are and how we are brought up in this world, everyone’s life is made up of light and shade. No horoscope is perfect and we all have lessons in life to experience before we come to the end of our journey.

Since time in memorial drugs, in all their form have been the scourge of society and like a deadly spider hiding in the corner of his web waiting to catch his prey, the drug barons are out there waiting for those weak enough to get caught.

Let us learn from the tragic mistakes of others and say, “no” when asked to pop a pill, smoke a joint or worse still, inject the drug into our body.

It was a sad end to a talented Diva. May She Rest in Peace.

“The song has ended but the melody lingers on.”

My first chart reading given to me was eunogh to convince me that I needed to learn astrology because the guy had ripped me off with his lack of knowledge. He had been unable to tell me a thing I hadn’t already read and understood about my chart from books and he hadn’t been able to tell me the critical importance of getting my accurate birth time. Despite that I had mentioned my belief that I had a particular rising sign and the time I believed I was born, he opted to go with the time my mother remembered even though I was the youngest in my family and my mother had stated outright that she wasn’t sure. He never even suggested that I obtain a new birth certificate from our Bureau of Vital Statistics. As a result of the experience, I swore I would learn astrology with a goal of self-protection from other frauds like he was and teaching others the difference between good astrology and bad.My first reading I performed was a test my mentor used to see if I was ready to venture out in the world. When I was done, after a long pause he described as my having left him breathless, he told me I’d just read the late John Lennon’s chart. I’ve been reading ever since.
